Marmolada

The Marmolada is also the queen of the seasons, with the large glacier of punta Rocca. It is open almost all year round for skiing. In summer, the season seems to turned on their heads: make the most of the hot temperatures to jettison those bulky winter jackets and sky in your t- shirt. The sun reflected on the snow is strong even in winter, so use good lip and skin protection. Once down in the valley again you can take up the usual summer activities of trips, hikes and climbs.

The Marmolada massif has a serious wartime history. The southern flank like many other local peaks, was the theatre of bitter fighting between 1915 and 1918, and a whole village of soldiers'barracks was built under the glacier.

This atmosphere - suspended between dreams and reality - is the one that climbers encounter as they approach the vertical sout - facing walls.they can then marvel at the Punta Penia, conquered in 1864 by Paul Grohmann and two guides from Cortina.

From the top, the silence amplifies the power of the rock, the vastness of the panorama and the intesity of the sky.
