THE DOLOMITES ROAD

But the Dolomites Road certainly isn't a typical road: bends passes, many villages, and constant changes in altitude all play their part in lengthening your journey. So if you want to cross the Alps in style, make some the Dolomites Road is on your itinerary, once on it, you'll soon realise how difficult communication between the valleys must have once been originally these roads were only paths but gradually over the years they were improved to become the first cart tracks. In all weather, horses and mules were used to pull laden carts up the step passes, to then tackle their downhill slaves, their hooves stumbling on the loose stones.

 

If you decide to turn off the Dolomite Road off a while you certainly want' be disappointed between Canazei and the Pordoi Pass, you can turn left up toSella Pass, and enjoy the detour around the Sella Massif taking Gardena Pass and Campolongo Pass.

 

 

 

 

The Sella Pass also offers great winter skiing facilities and summer footpaths and climbs. The famous Sella Ronda is the name given to the ski circuit that goes all over the foot of the Sella Massif a full they's skiing in winter! In summer the pass is a popular stating point for hiking excursion.

 

 

 

Moving on with our detour from the Dolomites Road, from Sella Pass we descend towards the Val Gardena.Two thirds the way down and shortly before the village of Selva itself, we turn right to climb another pass, the Gardena Pass, which lies at a height of 2121 m. between Mount Odler to the north and Sella to the south. From here the view of our destination is monumentally obstructed and we must snake down around a few bends to arrive at Colfosco before reaching the entrance of the Val Badia.

 

 

 

 

We rejoin the Dolomites Road by cross, passo Campolongo to Arabba. Shortly you come to Falzarego Pass with enviable position on the Tofana and then you arrive at Cortina .

Opposite to Faloria on the left thereis the Cristallo and Sorapiss on the right and then there are Antelao, Mount Pelmo and the Becco di Mezzo.

Between Cristallo and Faloria there is Monte Croce Pass which leads to lake Misurina and the end of the Dolomites Road.
