Piazza del Duomo
In the Piazza del Duomo, the
cathedral square, you' llfind a classic European scene. Professionals
scurry, label- couscious kits laiter, pickpockets eye the crowd. Head
across the square to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a four- story
glass- damed arcade, for shopping or a snack and some people- watching.
There' s a mosaic zodiac on the floor watch the locals as they walk
aver it. The young girls add a twirl for even better fortune! At the
centre of a web of streets there is the Duomo of Mila, the world' s
large Gothic cathedral, begun in 1386 and taking nearly five centuries
to complete.
On the apposite side of the
piazza is the opulent Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, a cruciform glass-
damed gallery designed in 1865 by Giuseppe Mengoni, who was killed when
he fell from the roof a few days before the manguval ceremony.
